Single Tooth Replacement – Pasadena, TX

Fill in the Gap and Recomplete Your Smile

Pretty, smiling womanSadly, many people who have a missing tooth choose not to replace it. They may believe that doing so isn’t necessary because they can still eat without much trouble, and they might not be too concerned about aesthetics. However, even a single missing tooth can have dire consequences for your oral health! Over time, the bone that once supported the tooth will deteriorate. The surrounding teeth may also drift out of place, leading to painful misalignment and bite problems. We strongly encourage all of our patients who have lost even one member of their smile to consider their options for single tooth replacement in Pasadena.

Single Tooth Replacement Options

There are two ways in which we can replacing a missing tooth:

A fixed bridge, sometimes called a crown and bridge, is a prosthesis with two crowns that fit over the teeth that are adjacent to the empty space. They support an artificial tooth between them. Bridges may be constructed out of metal or porcelain, but porcelain is the more popular choice due to its natural appearance. A bridge can be quite sturdy, prevent the remaining natural teeth from drifting out of place, and restore full dental function.

The other option for replacing a missing tooth is a single dental implant. Dental implants in Pasadena are small titanium cylinders that we place underneath the gum line in a minimally invasive surgery. The soft tissue at the insertion site tends to heal quite quickly, but it may be a few months before the bone recovers. During this period, the jaw actually fuses to the implant, thus enabling it to act as a substitute tooth root. Once that happens, we attach a beautiful, custom-made crown to the top of the implant to replace the visible portion of the missing tooth.

The Benefits of Implant-Supported Single Tooth Replacement

Although both fixed bridges and dental implants are sound options for replacing a tooth, we often recommend that our patients consider an implant as their top choice. We do so for several reasons:
